The Call to Cambodia

This is where we believe God is leading us...

How it started

In 2022, during a discipleship school, God planted a quiet desire in our hearts: Cambodia. We didn’t fully understand it at the time, it started with a step, a dream, and a longing to follow His lead.

Over the next two years, God spoke through moments, dreams, and unexpected connections including a real map pin that matched the vision He gave us. Each piece confirmed the same thing: we weren’t imagining it. He was showing us where to go.

It’s not about a destination, it’s about obedience.

Where We Are Now

We’re leaving for Cambodia next month. We don’t know everything, but we’re moving forward in faith.

This journey isn’t a final destination. It’s a first step. A time to discern, to pray, and to see what God is preparing.

Along the way, God has reminded us that knowing Him isn’t just believing, it’s walking with Him. Leaving comfort. Trusting Him daily.

God is preparing the ground. And we’re moving forward, one step at a time.

How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news! Romans 10:15

💔 17.8% live under the national poverty line

Many families still struggle to meet their basic daily needs. Not just food and shelter, but education, healthcare, and opportunity. A small financial shock can push them even deeper into survival mode. Poverty here is quiet, persistent, and deeply affecting.

  • Two light bulbs, one red and one white, hanging on a dark wall with a hand reaching towards them.

    🙏 0.3–3% identify as Christian

The vast majority of Cambodians have never heard the Gospel in a personal way. While Buddhism shapes most of the culture, the door is open and the harvest is still early. Small but faithful Christian communities are growing, and the need for discipleship is great.

  • Two young men, one smoking a cigarette, in a casual setting with posters on the wall.

    👥 70% are under 35

Cambodia is a young nation full of potential, creativity, and restlessness. But many young people grow up without direction, mentorship, or purpose. The next generation is forming now, and the Church has a powerful role to play in shaping their identity and hope.

🏚️ Thousands lose homes over micro-debts as small as $2,000

Crushed by small loans and predatory lending, families often lose land, homes, and stability. It’s not uncommon for generational property to be seized over debts that wouldn’t cover a used car in North America. The economic fragility is heartbreaking.

💡 Rural communities lack access to clean water, healthcare, and Gospel presence

Outside the cities, daily life is marked by long walks for water, limited medical care, and spiritual hunger. Many villages have no church or Christian witness at all. Yet these same places are often where hearts are most open and transformation begins with presence.

  • Damaged bridge over a river with trees and debris in the background

⚠️ Millions at risk due to pollution

Pollution touches every part of life: water, air, and soil. In some rural wells, arsenic levels are dangerously high (300x above WHO limit), threatening families quietly through daily use. Beyond physical health, there’s a longing for restoration of the land, the body, and the spirit.

There is truly a need for the God of hope.

That’s why we’re preparing to go, to follow His leading, walk alongside others, and share the hope we’ve found in Him.

How You Can Pray

🧭 Wisdom for timing and next steps

We’re aiming for fall, but we want God’s timing above all. We’ve received encouraging words, but we’re still discerning the practical details, especially around visas and long-term direction. Please pray that we walk in clarity and not in haste.

🗣️ Language learning and cultural preparation

We meet weekly with a Khmer tutor and attend a Cambodian church in Ottawa. Slowly, we’re learning how to listen well to the language, history, and honor-based culture. Pray for understanding, grace in our learning, and hearts ready to receive.

💵 Financial provision and business growth

The biggest practical need right now is airfare. Verse on Wall was created not just as income, but as a seed to support missions and eventually Khmer believers too. Please pray for God’s provision and that our store continues to grow in reach and impact.

🤝 Open doors and divine connections

We’ve made some early connections with believers in Cambodia and we’re praying for deeper ones. Mentors, friends, people of peace. Pray for relationships that sharpen us, guide us, and multiply the fruit.

🦶 Faith to keep following

This journey isn’t always easy. Some days we feel unsure. But we’re learning to walk anyway. Please pray for stronger faith, rooted not in clarity but in trust.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Hearts prepared, children covered

We’re asking God to prepare the hearts of those we’ll meet and to surround our kids with protection, peace, and good friendships. Pray they encounter God for themselves, and that our family walks together in unity.

“We don’t just ask for prayer, we depend on it. Thank you for covering us.”
